Only two vessels — a grain carrier and an empty dry-bulk ship — transited the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, down from nine on Thursday, an August daily average of 12, and a pre-war average above 130, the Times of Israel reported. The slowdown follows two additional tanker attacks that UAE operator ADNOC blamed on Iran, and comes as a senior Iranian source said there has been no progress reviving the collapsed June ceasefire-for-shipping agreement.
Context
With transit down to a handful of ships a day, shippers and insurers are effectively treating the strait as closed, which will feed through to tighter physical crude supply and higher war-risk premiums rather than a quick reopening.
