Sources Iran rejects Oman's Hormuz route as unacceptable
Iran's Revolutionary Guard said safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz is only possible on the route Tehran has specified, calling any lane announced without Iran's consent unacceptable and a security risk, and warning its forces will handle vessels that transit without coordinating with Iran. The stance rebuffs the Omani two-corridor proposal and keeps Tehran's demand for control of the waterway in place.

Sources Brent holds above USD 76 as the waiver window shrinks
Brent crude held above USD 76 a barrel and was on track for a weekly gain of roughly 6 percent as renewed U.S.-Iran strikes and the Hormuz closure kept a risk premium in the market. The U.S. Treasury moved the cutoff for permitted Iranian crude sales up to 12:01 a.m. EDT on July 17, from the previously authorized August 21, tightening the supply outlook.

Sources Oman floats a two-corridor Hormuz plan as Muscat talks end
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met his Omani counterpart in Muscat and left with an Omani proposal to run the Strait of Hormuz through two lanes: a southern corridor in Omani waters open to free navigation under pre-war rules, and a northern corridor in Iranian waters where ships would need Iran's prior approval but pay no toll. The talks broke up without a breakthrough and short of the U.S. demand for a public Iranian declaration that the strait is fully open.

Sources Oman tells the UN it opposes Iran's Hormuz toll plan
Oman formally notified the United Nations that it opposes charging vessels merely for transiting the Strait of Hormuz, breaking with Iran and aligning with Washington after weeks of disagreement over how post-war shipping should work. Tehran had floated a maritime service-fee framework that reporting said could raise tens of billions of dollars a year, a plan now seen as far less likely after Muscat's UN move.

Sources IRGC declares the Strait of Hormuz closed
Iran's Revolutionary Guard navy declared the Strait of Hormuz closed until further notice and until the end of U.S. interference, after firing a warning shot at a vessel it said tried to transit along an unapproved route. It was the first outright closure declaration since the war began, sharply raising the stakes over the chokepoint that carries about a fifth of the world's oil and gas.
