Iran says Gulf states and Iraq will meet in Oman Monday on Hormuz shipping lanes

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said a meeting in Oman on Monday would brief Iraq and Gulf states on an Iran-Oman understanding on temporary shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz, adding that 'Iran remains committed to ensuring the security of navigation in the strait.'

Why this matters. The meeting aimed to win Gulf buy-in for a negotiated route through the strait, though Iran also planned to press for the expulsion of US forces from the region.
