U.S. extends its energy-shipping waiver for 90 days

Trump extended a narrower Jones Act waiver for 90 days, effective Aug. 17, allowing approved foreign-flagged voyages carrying oil, fuel, fertilizer and related cargo between U.S. ports. The Pentagon and Maritime Administration will review exemptions voyage by voyage.

Why this matters. The waiver is a concrete domestic contingency for prolonged energy disruption: it can ease U.S. distribution constraints but does not restore normal traffic through Hormuz.
