UKMTO said a northbound bulk carrier was attacked by multiple small craft about 11 nautical miles west of Sirik on Iran's coast; all crew were safe and nobody claimed responsibility. Hours later UKMTO said a tanker off Fujairah was hit by unknown projectiles, also without casualties.
Why it matters
The attacks came hours before the US launched its operation to guide ships through the strait.
