Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Ali Bagheri Kani, deputy secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, in Beijing and said dialogue and negotiation were the only viable path forward in the US-Israel war on Iran. President Xi Jinping also hosted Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq during the same diplomatic push.
Why it matters
China is publicly entering the diplomatic track while Oman remains a potential intermediary, adding channels for a proposal that could affect fighting and Strait of Hormuz access.
