Egypt's parliament authorized President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to provide military support if Saudi Arabia requests help defending its territory and borders against the Houthis. Sisi said Egyptian support would not include attacks inside Yemen.
Why it matters
The authorization gives Cairo a legal route to deploy in support of Saudi Arabia, potentially widening the regional military response to Houthi attacks on Saudi territory and energy infrastructure.
