President Emmanuel Macron said Chief Warrant Officer Arnaud Frion of the 7th Alpine Chasseurs Battalion died after a drone struck the Mala Qara base in Iraq's Irbil region, a Kurdish base where French troops were training Iraqi units. France's armed forces ministry said six other soldiers were in hospital.
