At the war's first Pentagon briefing, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the four U.S. dead were killed when a munition got past air defenses and hit a fortified tactical operations center in Kuwait, and said Iran had been "stalling" in talks. Gen. Dan Caine said the U.S. had local air superiority over Iran but its objectives would "take some time" and more Americans could die.

Why it matters
