Saudi-led coalition says it downed Houthi drones aimed at Riyadh

The Saudi-led coalition said its air defences intercepted and destroyed two Houthi drones launched toward the Riyadh area and ballistic missiles aimed at Khamis Mushait, a southwestern city that hosts an air base. A Houthi political bureau member called the operation "merely a small-scale rehearsal for a full-scale escalation."
Why it matters
The attacks came hours after Saudi, Pakistani and Turkish military chiefs pledged collective defence of the kingdom, testing that pledge.
