Yemen's Houthi rebels carried out intense attacks across front lines in Taiz governorate, according to Al Jazeera. Yemeni government forces said they held their positions and inflicted heavy losses as the Houthis sought to build on their capture of Red Sea coastal territory last month.
Why it matters
Further Houthi gains inland could strengthen the group's position after its Red Sea advances and complicate security around regional shipping routes.
