IRGC says it hit two tankers; Iran's strait authority says Hormuz transit 'not possible'

The IRGC said it 'struck and stopped' two tankers it claimed were under U.S. aerial escort and that four others turned back. Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority then said transit 'is not currently possible' because of U.S. military actions and that permits would resume only 'once stability and calm are restored'; CENTCOM replied that the strait 'remains open' and 'Iran does not control it.'
Why it matters
Security council secretary Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr said the U.S. blockade would 'tighten the lock' on Hormuz and close other chokepoints, with American voters paying the price.
