Iran threatens to strike U.S.- and Israel-linked banks across the Middle East

Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesman for Iran's central military command, said an alleged U.S.-Israeli strike on an Iranian bank was "forcing our hand to target economic centres and banks linked to the U.S. and Zionist regime in the region," and told people to stay at least a kilometer away from such banks.

Why it matters

Western banks and firms told Gulf staff to work from home and Citibank said it would close all but one UAE branch, carrying the war's pressure into the region's financial centers.
