Iran’s Foreign Ministry called on Iraq to remove remaining restrictions on Iranian flights and restore normal air travel, condemning what it called U.S. extraterritorial enforcement of sanctions. Flights remained suspended at Baghdad, Erbil and Sulaimaniyah airports, while Najaf-Iran services had partially resumed.
Why it matters
The restrictions are disrupting passenger and pilgrimage traffic between Iran and Iraq and show U.S. sanctions enforcement affecting regional aviation operations beyond Iran.
