Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said four tankers struck naval mines after using routes it described as unauthorised in the Strait of Hormuz. Al Jazeera's liveblog headline also reported the IRGC's claim that the tankers caught fire. The supplied reporting does not identify the vessels or independently confirm the incidents.
Why it matters
The claim directly concerns tanker access through Hormuz and could affect shipowners' routing and transit decisions.
