Israel authorised Britain to keep a seven-diplomat mission operating from the former consulate building in East Jerusalem, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said. Saar said 20 British diplomats, including the consul general, were ending their assignments and would leave Israel; workers removed the consulate signage from the building.
Why it matters
The arrangement sharply limits Britain's on-the-ground diplomatic and consular capacity for Palestinians in East Jerusalem while preserving a minimal UK presence during talks with Israel.
