Iranian state TV said Gen. Ali Mohammad Naini, spokesman for the Revolutionary Guard, was killed in an airstrike early Friday, after he issued a statement insisting Iran could still build missiles. Israel's military confirmed an overnight Israeli Air Force strike and said he was one of dozens of senior regime figures it had killed during the operation.

Why it matters
