After Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors met at the White House with Vance, Rubio and U.S. envoys, Trump announced the ceasefire would be extended by three weeks and said he hoped to host Netanyahu and President Joseph Aoun soon; he said ending Iranian funding of Hezbollah was a “must” in any deal with Iran. Hezbollah lawmaker Ali Fayyad called the extension “meaningless” and said the group “firmly rejects” it.

Why it matters
