Israel orders more Beirut suburbs evacuated as Lebanon's death toll reaches 850

Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee ordered residents of Haret Hreik, Ghobeiry, Laylaki, Hadath, Burj al-Barajneh, Tahwitat al-Ghadir and Shiyah to leave immediately after a night of strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs. Lebanon's Health Ministry said at least 850 people, including 107 children, had been killed since March 2.

Why it matters

More than 800,000 people had already fled their homes, and President Joseph Aoun's offer of negotiations drew a reply from Israel's foreign minister that no direct talks were planned in the coming days.
