The Israeli military said Division 162 would join two divisions already operating in southern Lebanon with the aim of expanding a buffer zone, a day after Netanyahu said Israel would enlarge the area it controls. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam told the UN chief the push threatened Lebanon's sovereignty and said Beirut would complain to the Security Council.
Why it matters
A third division signals a deeper and longer ground presence in the south, which Lebanon's prime minister called a threat to the country's sovereignty.
