Iranian state media said facilities linked to the offshore South Pars field at Asaluyeh were attacked, and state TV said Phases 3 to 6 were shut to stop a spreading fire. A person familiar with the matter told AP the U.S. knew of Israel's plan but did not take part; Qatar, which shares the reservoir, called the strike 'dangerous and irresponsible.'

Why it matters
