Israeli strikes on central Beirut kill at least 10 and flatten a building in Bachoura

Lebanon's Health Ministry said Israeli strikes on central Beirut since midnight killed 10 people and wounded 27, hitting the Basta, Zuqaq al-Blat and Bachoura areas, where one apartment building was flattened. Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV said its political programs director Mohammad Shari and his wife were among the dead.

Why it matters

The strikes pushed deeper into central Beirut, far from the southern suburbs Israel had ordered evacuated, and by evening the ministry's national toll had reached 968, including 116 children.
