Israeli troops flattened residential blocks in Hebron’s Ein Deir Baha district, according to the Guardian and local Palestinian authorities. The municipality estimated that 35 hectares had been destroyed or marked for destruction and about 1,500 people evicted by Saturday afternoon. Resident-supplied videos showed flattened houses, soldiers marking homes and a bulldozer demolishing a wall. The demolitions followed Friday’s checkpoint attack that killed two Israeli soldiers.

Why it matters

About 1,500 displaced residents need accommodation while checkpoints sealing Hebron restrict movement into and out of the city.
