Katz says Israel could strike Iran 'a third time'; Araghchi warns of 'powerful response'

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said Israel had attacked Iran twice with pre-emptive strikes and 'if necessary, we will strike a third time', and that its forces would stay indefinitely in 'security zones' in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, responding to Israeli media reports that Katz had called Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei 'marked for death', said any threat to Iran's leadership would get an 'immediate powerful response' and that Trump had committed the U.S. to restraining Israel.

Why it matters

Israel was not a party to the memorandum, and its threats and continued presence in Lebanon were the main outside risk to the deal as U.S.-Iran technical talks opened in Doha.
