Kuwait cuts crude output and refining as a precaution against Iranian attacks

Kuwait Petroleum Corporation said it was making a precautionary reduction in crude oil production and refining, citing Iranian attacks on the country and threats to the Strait of Hormuz. It did not say how much output was cut and said it would restore production when circumstances permit.

Why it matters

Kuwait is one of the world's largest oil producers, so the cut tightened supply further as prices were already surging.
