Macron says France will send troops and air defences to protect Saudi port of Yanbu

President Emmanuel Macron told TF1 and France 2 that France would send soldiers, radar systems and defence systems to Saudi Arabia to protect the Red Sea port of Yanbu, "not to get us involved in any conflicts, but to protect this site."

Why it matters

Yanbu is the main outlet for Saudi crude diverted around Hormuz, and a French deployment would add to a European role in defending Saudi energy sites already shown by a Greek-run Patriot battery there.
