Netanyahu says Israeli forces have crossed the Litani and taken dominating terrain

Visiting troops near the border, Netanyahu said "our forces crossed the Litani" and were operating in Beirut, the Bekaa Valley and "across the entire front". Troops had been pushing north of the river toward Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, Mayfadoun and Zawtar al-Gharbiyah, southeast of Nabatieh, against heavy Hezbollah resistance.

Why it matters

The Litani had served as a de facto boundary of Israel's operations; crossing it moved the fight toward Nabatieh as U.S.-Iran talks sought an end to fighting in Lebanon.
