Trafigura, Vitol, Mercuria and Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. are negotiating with U.S. officials for licenses to buy or lease sanctioned tankers, according to a Bloomberg report cited by OilPrice.com. The talks cover about 50 vessels; Treasury is considering requests case by case and has made no final decisions.

Why it matters

Licenses could add tankers to a market strained by longer Iran-war routes and high freight and insurance costs, potentially easing crude-export logistics.
