The U.S. Treasury sanctioned nine individuals and entities it said supported weapons procurement for the IRGC and Iran's defence ministry, including China- and Hong Kong-based people and companies and a Hong Kong firm in Iran's clandestine banking network that attempted procurement-related transactions.
Why it matters
It was Treasury's third Iran sanctions action in nine days, running alongside the naval blockade and the resumed U.S. strikes.
