President Donald Trump said Taiwan would buy $70 billion to $80 billion of Alaska LNG over 20 years, covering 30% of the planned project’s output, and invest $4.4 billion. Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs confirmed plans to purchase about 6 million tonnes annually and invest up to $4.4 billion, OilPrice.com reported.
Why it matters
The prospective long-term supply deal would give Taiwan an alternative LNG source as Asian buyers seek routes and supplies less exposed to disruption around the Strait of Hormuz.
