The UAE foreign ministry said 'all trade, commercial exchanges, and financial transactions with Iran have been halted until further notice' in light of regional escalations, hours after it accused Iran of firing two ballistic missiles at Gulf shipping. Iran denied firing the missiles.
Why it matters
The UAE is Iran's second-largest trading partner after China and a main channel for its trade and finance, so the halt removes a gateway that had kept expanding despite U.S. sanctions.
