The UK government said it will deploy RAF Typhoon jets for defensive counter-air operations over Saudi Arabia to help protect cities, civilians and critical infrastructure from Houthi missiles and drones. Defence Secretary Wes Streeting said the aircraft will not conduct offensive strikes in Yemen.
Why it matters
The deployment adds British aircraft to Saudi air defence during Houthi attacks on Saudi cities and energy infrastructure, while keeping the UK mission formally limited to interception rather than strikes in Yemen.
