UN refugee agency says up to 3.2 million people displaced inside Iran

UNHCR said preliminary assessments showed 600,000 to 1 million Iranian households, up to 3.2 million people, temporarily displaced inside Iran by the war, most of them from Tehran and other major cities toward the north or rural areas. It said the figure was likely to keep rising as hostilities persisted.

Why it matters

Tehran has no citywide system of shelters or sirens, AP reported, so for many residents leaving the capital has been the main protection from the strikes.
