Serbian UN peacekeeper killed by mortar fire on his position near Marjayoun

UNIFIL said a peacekeeper died early on June 4 of injuries from mortar rounds that hit his position near Marjayoun in south Lebanon the previous night, and two others were wounded; it did not say who fired. Serbia's defence ministry named him as Staff Sergeant Milovan Jovanović.

Why it matters

The EU said he was the seventh UNIFIL peacekeeper killed since March, and his death came hours after the Washington ceasefire statement.
