CENTCOM said a U.S. aircraft fired Hellfire missiles into the smokestack of the unladen, Curacao-flagged tanker Belma after it ignored warnings while sailing toward Kharg Island. An Iranian official said the tanker was hit again by two U.S. missiles two days later, and U.S. Marines released video of boarding a tanker in the Gulf of Oman.

Why it matters

It showed the blockade being enforced with force from its first full day, as the U.S. had done in June before the memorandum.
