US and European allies push IAEA board to report Iran to UN Security Council

The United States, Britain, France and Germany are lobbying members of the IAEA's 35-nation board to pass a resolution next week reporting Iran to the UN Security Council for the first time in 20 years, diplomats told Reuters on Sept. 4. Iran's mission in Vienna called the move 'desperate' and said it would bring its authors no benefit.

Why it matters

Iran has not let IAEA inspectors back into its bombed sites, where the agency believes well over 200 kg of 60% enriched uranium survived at Isfahan and Natanz.
