U.S. intercepts two Iranian missiles aimed at its troops in Kuwait after Qeshm strikes

CENTCOM said U.S. forces intercepted two Iranian ballistic missiles fired at American troops in Kuwait at 11 p.m. ET on May 31, with no U.S. personnel harmed. The IRGC said it hit the airbase used for a U.S. attack on a telecommunications tower in Hormozgan province; CENTCOM had said it struck Iranian air defences, a ground control station and two attack drones in Goruk and on Qeshm Island over the weekend after Iran downed a U.S. MQ-1 drone.

Why it matters

It opened a week of tit-for-tat clashes around Hormuz in which Iran answered U.S. strikes by firing at U.S. forces in Kuwait and Bahrain.
