U.S. sanctions 50-plus targets in Shamkhani oil shipping network, freezes $130m in crypto

The Treasury and State Department designated more than 50 individuals, entities and vessels in the sanctions-evasion network of Iranian shipping magnate Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, which Washington called a major enabler of Iran's oil exports, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said wallets tied to Iran's central bank holding over $130 million were frozen. The next day the Treasury sanctioned a network in Iran, Russia and Nigeria it said helped the IRGC procure weapons.
Why it matters
Washington was pairing the renewed blockade with sanctions aimed at the networks that move Iranian oil at sea.
