Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman signed a peaceful nuclear cooperation agreement and a safeguards agreement, the Energy Department said. U.S. companies would run nuclear power in Saudi Arabia, and uranium enrichment on Saudi soil could follow, controlled by a contracted company and only after a lengthy study.
Why it matters
It was signed in the middle of a war the U.S. says is about stopping Iran's enrichment; the next day Trump said the deal was subject to Saudi Arabia joining the Abraham Accords.
