U.S. and Saudi jets strike Iran-backed militia sites in Iraq; PMF says 20 killed

CENTCOM said U.S. and Saudi fighter aircraft struck militia logistics and weapons sites across eastern Iraq in response to more than 30 IRGC-directed drone attacks in 72 hours on U.S. forces and Saudi energy sites, and Saudi Arabia called its role 'limited, targeted strikes.' The Popular Mobilisation Forces said at least 20 fighters were killed and 32 wounded at headquarters in Baghdad, Basra, Kirkuk and other provinces.

Why it matters

It was the first offensive action Saudi Arabia has acknowledged in the war; Iraq's presidency called the strikes a flagrant violation of its sovereignty while also condemning the militias' attacks on neighbours.
