US energy secretary says a record 17 million barrels crossed Hormuz on Aug. 31

Energy Secretary Chris Wright told CNBC that more than 17 million barrels of oil transited the Strait of Hormuz on Aug. 31, a wartime record against about 20 million barrels a day before the war, and said Iran is 'losing that card.' CNBC noted that US government figures are higher than those reported by independent ship trackers.
Why it matters
