Yemen's internationally recognised government said its Homeland Shield Forces and Giants Brigades captured Dhubab district and other positions near Bab al-Mandeb, cutting supply lines and roads leading to the strait. The Houthis denied the claim. The government also said it had launched a strategic offensive toward Sanaa.

Why it matters

Control of positions near Bab al-Mandeb can affect the ground conflict around a major Red Sea shipping chokepoint.
