Forces aligned with Yemen's internationally recognised government launched an operation to retake the Houthi-held al-Waziiya district in Taiz. The army media centre said Homeland Shield Forces secured hills overlooking al-Mansoura; the Houthis said they repelled the advance.
Why it matters
Al-Waziiya is part of the approach to Mocha and the Red Sea coast, making control of the district relevant to the government offensive toward Bab al-Mandab.
