UAE says one person killed in Abu Dhabi as it intercepts Iranian missiles

The UAE's state news agency said at least one person was killed in Abu Dhabi by shrapnel after several Iranian missiles were intercepted, the first known death from Iran's counterattack. The UAE called it a flagrant violation of its sovereignty and reserved the right to respond.

Why it matters

The death made the UAE, which had tried to stay out of a U.S.-Iran fight, a direct casualty of the war and hardened Gulf opinion against Tehran.
