Iranian state media said a strike during the U.S.-Israeli attack hit a girls' elementary school in Minab, Hormozgan province, where the Revolutionary Guard has a base. The reported toll rose through the day from five to at least 40, and state media put it at 165 by Sunday.
Why it matters
The deadliest single strike of the opening day became a focus of Iranian outrage and of questions over which country's munition hit the school; Israel's military said it was not aware of any strike there.
