CMA CGM's Malta-flagged Kribi became possibly the first France-linked vessel to cross the strait since Iran closed it, taking a northerly route between Qeshm and Larak islands, MarineTraffic data showed; Mitsui O.S.K. Lines said the Japanese-Omani-owned Sohar LNG crossed Friday, the first Japan-affiliated passage of the war. Neither company said whether passage was arranged with Iran.

Why it matters

Iran was letting selected ships pass through what analysts call a Larak Island "toll booth" charging up to $2 million, while traffic stayed about 90% below normal.
