Egypt’s National Defence Council, chaired by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, said Egypt was ready to provide all necessary and possible support to defend Saudi Arabia’s security, resources and territorial integrity. The presidency also said Cairo would intensify diplomatic efforts for de-escalation. The statement did not specify military deployments or assistance.
Why it matters
The pledge opens the possibility of Egyptian assistance to Saudi Arabia, while leaving the form and scope of that support undecided.
