Iranian parliament approved Mehrdad Akhlaghi Ketabchi as defence minister, replacing Aziz Nasirzadeh, who was killed on the opening day of the U.S.-Israel war on Iran, Al Jazeera reported. Akhlaghi had been serving in defence-sector roles focused on missiles, aerospace and military-industrial production.
Why it matters
Akhlaghi takes charge of rebuilding and expanding Iran’s defence-industrial base while Iran faces continued U.S. and Israeli military pressure.
