U.S. Central Command said the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli and elements of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, about 3,500 sailors and Marines with transport and strike fighter aircraft, had arrived in the region. The USS Boxer and another expeditionary unit were also ordered to the Middle East, and The Washington Post reported the Pentagon was preparing options for weeks of limited ground operations in Iran.
