About 6 million to 8 million barrels a day of crude are now moving through the Strait of Hormuz, roughly half prewar levels, according to trader estimates reported by Bloomberg. Trump said 24 tankers crossed overnight with U.S. military help and that U.S. forces had "taken out two" mine-laying boats; Brent rose about 0.5% to $87.36.
Why it matters
Estimates diverge widely: Kpler data cited by Al Jazeera put average direct crude exports through the strait at about 2.2 million barrels a day.
